Summary

A charmingly eccentric hotel maid discovers a guest murdered in his bed。 Solving the mystery will turn her once orderly world upside down in this utterly original debut。

Molly Gray is not like everyone else。 She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others。 Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by。

Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life's complexities all by herself。 No matter--she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid。 Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job。 She delights in donning her crisp uniform each morning, stocking her cart with miniature soaps and bottles, and returning guest rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel to a state of perfection。

But Molly's orderly life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous and wealthy Charles Black, only to find it in a state of disarray and Mr。 Black himself dead in his bed。 Before she knows what's happening, Molly's unusual demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect。 She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception, one she has no idea how to untangle。 Fortunately for Molly, friends she never knew she had unite with her in a search for clues to what really happened to Mr。 Black--but will they be able to find the real killer before it's too late?

A Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different--and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart。

It’s DNF I stopped at chapter 19, story plot was too slow for me which is disappointing for “whodunnit” story。 It took me over a week to read a murder mystery。 Some parts were unpredictable。 If you liked the book “anxious people” you might like this book too

The protagonist Molly, is an eccentric hotel maid。 In Nita Prose’s debut novel, she has created a lovely whodunit。 Molly is an endearing character。 The book is a quick and delightful read。 Thank you #NetGalley, #BallantineBooks and #NitaProse for the advance readers copy for my honest review。

If you thought are cleanliness freak you haven’t met Miss Molly Maid。 Plot, sure, not really there at all; but the writing style, took me by surprise。 Molly is someone who has challenges understanding social etiquettes and conversations, the writing reflects it efficiently。I felt so protective of Molly 😢 until she took me by surprise。

Usually I like stories where the main character doesn't fit into societal norms, one who is ostracized and ignored but who shows strength and resilience, eventually proving their worth and showing how society has misjudged them。 Sadly, I found this book mostly irritating。 As with many books, this started out promising。 Molly, our quirky MC, discovers a body in the hotel room she's cleaning。 Without much effort, the police conclude that she's the murderer。 When faced with her imprisonment, Molly Usually I like stories where the main character doesn't fit into societal norms, one who is ostracized and ignored but who shows strength and resilience, eventually proving their worth and showing how society has misjudged them。 Sadly, I found this book mostly irritating。 As with many books, this started out promising。 Molly, our quirky MC, discovers a body in the hotel room she's cleaning。 Without much effort, the police conclude that she's the murderer。 When faced with her imprisonment, Molly finally figures out that she needs help and reaches out to a good-hearted coworker who comes to her rescue。 However, it takes too long to get there。 The repetitive references to Molly's cleanliness obsession, her inability to read social cues, the numerous folky sayings from Grandma - all seemed to be used as filler。 The murder mystery itself was interesting at first, but the plot slowed down to a crawl with Molly's edge of the spectrum behavior constantly referenced。 Things finally picked up near the end and I liked the twist but not enough to rate this higher。 。。。more

I wish I would have listened to the audio version。 I’m any case, it was a good story, but nothing special especially after all the hype。

A fun, quirky, "who-done-it?" book。 I loved the writing, the dialogue, the character development, the story。。。 until the last few pages。 The story was wrapping up nicely, and then we find out who killed Mr。 Black and why -- (SPOILER) and the part Molly played! What?!? Wait! I just felt her actions were so out of character。 She was now above the law? I felt betrayed。Oh, and another SPOILER: I didn't like the "euthanasia incident。" I don't know why the author had to put that in, but I felt it was A fun, quirky, "who-done-it?" book。 I loved the writing, the dialogue, the character development, the story。。。 until the last few pages。 The story was wrapping up nicely, and then we find out who killed Mr。 Black and why -- (SPOILER) and the part Molly played! Amelia Bedelia for grown ups and I’m here for it!“Can I return your room to a stage of perfection?” Molly is a maid at a upscale hotel。 She also cannot read normal social cues, her character seems in my unprofessional opinion to display signs of being on the spectrum but undiagnosed。 One day she happens upon the dead body of a very important hotel guest and shortly thereafter is accused of murdering said guest。 She quickly learns that while you can’t always trust everyone, some people really are Amelia Bedelia for grown ups and I’m here for it!“Can I return your room to a stage of perfection?” Molly is a maid at a upscale hotel。 She also cannot read normal social cues, her character seems in my unprofessional opinion to display signs of being on the spectrum but undiagnosed。 One day she happens upon the dead body of a very important hotel guest and shortly thereafter is accused of murdering said guest。 She quickly learns that while you can’t always trust everyone, some people really are true friends。 This is what I would call a “cozy mystery” not something I would usually read, but Molly’s character and the other characters in the book pull you into their lives in such an endearing way。 The ending was great! This was my first experience listening to a book。 In previous attempts I did not particularly enjoy the audio version, however this one was so well read that I found it quite entertaining。 The author does a great job depicting the main character。

"The longer you live, the more you learn。 People are a mystery that can never be solved。 Life has a way of sorting itself out。 Everything will be okay in the end。 If it’s not okay, it’s not the end。"This kind of reminded me of "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine", but I liked this better。 I like the mystery involved - even though it was fairly obvious。 The main point of the story seems to be Molly Gray determining her own conclusions and who to best trust, not just an epic mystery novel。 I like "The longer you live, the more you learn。 People are a mystery that can never be solved。 Life has a way of sorting itself out。 Everything will be okay in the end。 If it’s not okay, it’s not the end。"This kind of reminded me of "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine", but I liked this better。 I like the mystery involved - even though it was fairly obvious。 The main point of the story seems to be Molly Gray determining her own conclusions and who to best trust, not just an epic mystery novel。 I liked the happy ending as well :) 。。。more

This was just a fun and entertaining book to read。 A little bit of the The Rosie Project and Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine type of humor mixed in with words of wisdom from Gran。Molly Gray "the Maid" works at the Regency Grand Hotel and is one of its most meticulous cleaners。 Because, as you know:"A well-stocked housekeeping trolley is a portable sanitation miracle。"She grew up with her Gran, so she speaks a little more "old-fashioned," (view spoiler)[ Molly's parents "disappeared" (were dr This was just a fun and entertaining book to read。 A little bit of the The Rosie Project and Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine type of humor mixed in with words of wisdom from Gran。Molly Gray "the Maid" works at the Regency Grand Hotel and is one of its most meticulous cleaners。 Because, as you know:"A well-stocked housekeeping trolley is a portable sanitation miracle。"She grew up with her Gran, so she speaks a little more "old-fashioned," (view spoiler)[ Molly's parents "disappeared" (were drug addicts) so she was raised by Gran。 But oh the plot twists! We the reader find out that Gran was engaged to the Regency Grand's doorman, Mr。 Preston, and had Molly's mom out of wedlock。 The two led separate lives, and Mr。 Preston married。 His daughter, Charlotte, "Molly's aunt。" though, becomes Molly's lawyer (hide spoiler)] and is deemed weirdo by some of her co-workers。When a murder happens at the hotel, Molly realizes that her friends really aren't her friends, and that her meticulous cleaning has actually turned her into the top "person of interest" (view spoiler)[ Molly had a thing for the bartender Rodney Stiles。 Rodney was running a cocaine operation out of the hotel, and had Molly clean up the room each night after they cut it up。 When Mr。 Black dies, Molly had become friends with his second wife, Giselle。 She became the main maid for the Black's while they stayed at the hotel, and Molly ultimately finds Mr。 Black dead in his hotel room。 Rodney frames Molly, with her innocence of going to get a gun out of the room and leaving it in her locker。But her help comes from Juan Manuel, who is also under Rodney's control, since his work visa ran out。 Juan corroborates that Rodney is running a coke operation, had dealings with Mr。 Black, and ultimately Molly's name is cleared。BUT! Rodney didn't kill Mr。 Black。 He was "a bad egg" and his first wife knew this。 After an especially bad fight with Mrs。 Black number 1 and his daughter, Victoria, Mrs。 Black goes into his room after his drug/drink binge and suffocates him (hide spoiler)]。I enjoyed this book。 However, it probably should have ended just a few chapters earlier than it did。 It felt like the author needed to tie up every little loose end, and in the process, add a few more plot twists that I didn't think needed to be there。Dusting books 。 。 。 you can't just blow the dust off them 。 。 。 that's not dusting, that's merely dust displacement。 。。。more

The initially unique character, that makes the story compelling, loses its characteristic way of conduct halfway through the book。 Lack of suspense and mystery further dampens one's interest。 Untapped potential。 The initially unique character, that makes the story compelling, loses its characteristic way of conduct halfway through the book。 Lack of suspense and mystery further dampens one's interest。 Untapped potential。 。。。more

3。75。 Though the pages moved swiftly there is something that I didn't find Fascinating and what it was, I dunno。Molly, the maid felt like someone with whom I would have never spent more than 5 min talking。 That's how annoying she was, yet she kept my curiosity spiked till the end。 3。75。 Though the pages moved swiftly there is something that I didn't find Fascinating and what it was, I dunno。Molly, the maid felt like someone with whom I would have never spent more than 5 min talking。 That's how annoying she was, yet she kept my curiosity spiked till the end。 。。。more

The author used a check sheet for "on the autism spectrum" to create the character of Molly the Maid。 She also looked up every issue relevant in today's world (not going to tell you bc I do not want to write a spoiler) and threw it all in the mix, making quite a mess。 This book is a wannabe Eleanor Oliphaunt, but it fails。 Molly resembles more of an Amelia Bedelia character。。。well, at first。。。 which is one of the many problems with the book - the inconsistency of the character。 After repetitivel The author used a check sheet for "on the autism spectrum" to create the character of Molly the Maid。 She also looked up every issue relevant in today's world (not going to tell you bc I do not want to write a spoiler) and threw it all in the mix, making quite a mess。 This book is a wannabe Eleanor Oliphaunt, but it fails。 Molly resembles more of an Amelia Bedelia character。。。well, at first。。。 which is one of the many problems with the book - the inconsistency of the character。 After repetitively telling us about her condition (without the label, of course), Molly very slowly reveals that she is actually astute in deciphering the subtleties。 Another problem is that she is holding back a lot of information - like Sherlock Holmes did (but his vital pieces of the pie were held back bc he wanted to be the one to solve the crime)。 There is no reason for her to hold this info back - I blame Nita Prose (not-funny pseudonym) for trying to throw a twist into the end - since that IS on the formula checklist。 The supporting cast members are cute, but stereotyped。 。。。more

This story line was amazing。! I love the ditsy Molly Gray, she was so clueless and definitely showed signs of asperger's syndrome。 The pace was good, there were some parts that I thought were useless but then it all connected towards the end。 I really enjoyed it。 This story line was amazing。! Enjoyed this enthralling mystery with protagonist Molly Gray。 Molly’s limited social skills and reliance on cliches learned from her Gran created a situation ripe for misunderstandings。 A great read。 Echoes of GailHoneyman’s Eleanor Oliphant character。

This was a very easy read, and I enjoyed that the narrator was learning and processing how to read nuances, emotions, social cues, etc。 In the end, it was tied up so neatly, which, is fitting for the narrator。 But I found myself getting bored with how easy/simple it was towards the end。 All in all, a palette cleanser, a simple read with a lovable character。

I had an off/on relationship with this novel。 It started off slow and I had a hard time getting into it。 I started to enjoy it when Molly started interacting with Mr。 Preston outside of work (don't want to give too much away) but the Epilogue bothered me。I was confused by Molly's character。 Maybe it's my fault that my brain kept wanting her to be a highly-functioning person with an ASD。 Her literalness, her inability to understand nuance and her "catalog of smiles and their meanings" seemed to r I had an off/on relationship with this novel。 It started off slow and I had a hard time getting into it。 I started to enjoy it when Molly started interacting with Mr。 Preston outside of work (don't want to give too much away) but the Epilogue bothered me。I was confused by Molly's character。 Maybe it's my fault that my brain kept wanting her to be a highly-functioning person with an ASD。 Her literalness, her inability to understand nuance and her "catalog of smiles and their meanings" seemed to reinforce that impression。 But some of the things she does don't align my understanding of someone with an ASD。 Her higher order thinking (especially with regards to "rules") just didn't make sense to me (especially in the Epilogue)。 I felt sympathy for her at times and at others, I felt her actions/ideas were inconsistent。I saw most of the resolutions coming a mile away。 I don't regret reading this book, but it didn't live up to the description that enticed me to read it (or at least my perception of it)。 。。。more

“My truth is not the same as yours because we don’t experience life in the same way。” WOW。 I listened to the audiobook。 The writer (and reader) did a great job capturing the unique thought processes of someone who is perhaps (although never identified) on the autistic spectrum。 Although many characters deem her as simple, Molly the Maid drops some pretty insightful truths about the human experience。
